What is Pilates and When will I notice results?
Pilates is an exercise system focusing on core control from the Body's Powerhouse or center. All movements begin from a strong core emphasizing breathwork to harness these deep muscles. Each workout will focuson spinal mobility, core stability, posture awareness, balance and strength. Many clients feel taller and more balanced after just one class. However, to fully realize the benefits of pilates takes time and consistency and results are usually noticed after 10 classes. A famous quote by Joseph Pilates, "In 10 classes you will feel the difference, in 20 classes you will see the difference and in 30 classes you will have a whole new body." It is also important to maintain a proper diet and engage in an active lifestyle for optimal results.
I am a complete beginner to exercise or pilates, is this right for me?
Pilates is perfect for any age and any stage. The Pilates method introduces basic principles of exercise and then layers in more challenging repertoire as the client progresses. Pilates and barre are especially beneficial for pregnant women. It helps to strengthen the core and pelvic floor muscles and there is no heavy impact on joints/body. Our instructors are all capable of modifying exercises for expectant mothers. If you are brand new to exercise private or semi private lessons are suggested. However, for those already in an exercise routine pilates is a great choice while pregnant and we can safely modify class exercises.
What are the benefits of pilates?
Pilates will help you develop long lean muscles, better posture and balance, a strong core and enhanced flexibility. You will gain increased body awareness and mental focus. Pilates helps rehabilitate and strengthen to prevent injuries, relieves back pain, stress, prevents osteoporosis and is excellent for those suffering with arthritis.
I am looking for a challenging and varied workout. Will pilates be hard enough?
Yes! Pilates is about stability before mobility and learning to harness your core or the "powerhouse" of your body to achieve amazing physical and mental results. Our studio is equipped with all the equipment needed to bring your workout to a new level. This is smart exercise. You do not need to beat your body up to get great results.
What is the earliest age to start pilates? What is the right age for my child to start the reformer?
Pilates is a very good exercise for children. We start mat classes for children between ages 8 and 9. These classes focus on teaching proper form and developing body awareness and confidence. Children are usually ready for the reformer classes around age 12-13. This depends on the individual's height, strength, maturity, and they must have completed a mat session or private lessons.
