Our Story

Alyson Millares and Kristin DePalma were friends for many years and decided to open Body and Soul Pilates in 2011. We both had been teaching pilates at various locations and had a shared vision to create a warm, supportive and contemporary environment focused on building strong bodies and peaceful minds. We are committed to hands on involvement in this business and providing the highest level of attention and client service. We work diligently to bring new and creative workouts to the studio, while keeping up with current industry trends and continuing education. We offer individualized attention to help our clients achieve their personal fitness goals at all levels, from the beginner to advanced athlete. We go beyond pilates movement and focus on connecting the mind and body in a creative and dynamic workout.

Kristin DePalma

Co-Owner, Pilates and Barre Instructor
Kristin has been teaching pilates since 2007 and is a Fully Certified STOTT PILATES® instructor. She has taken STOTT PILATES® Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chairs and Barrels Levels 1 and 2 and Injuries and Special Populations. She completed Total Barre™ training in 2014 and is also a certified Post Rehabilitative Breast Cancer Exercise Specialist through the Pink Ribbon Post-Operative Breast Cancer Recovery Program. Recently Kristin became a certified HALO Trainer through Merrithew Fitness. Kristin graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Accounting. She then worked for many years as a CPA. She discovered pilates as a way to strengthen her body and calm her mind. Kristin began her movement training as a dancer. Kristin is able to accommodate clients of all ability levels. She has experience teaching prenatal clients, those with chronic conditions including spinal stenosis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and chronic back pain. She also has experience teaching pilates to children and young adults. She has worked with many athletes including golfers, swimmers and runners. Kristin brings enthusiasm and expertise to each and every session. She takes into account each individual’s posture, fitness level, age and goals to program creative and challenging workouts.

Alyson Millares

Co-Owner, Pilates and Barre Instructor

She began her pilates journey as a student in 2005 and fell in love with the pilates method. Her many years of dance experience gives her the body awareness to focus on technique and quality of movement to help her clients achieve their personal goals. Alyson teaches all levels from beginner clients to the advanced level. She has worked with dancers to improve strength and flexibility. She has experience teaching to those recovering from injuries and can accommodate special populations. Alyson is a compassionate and patient teacher. She focuses on each client individually working with their specific strengths and weaknesses to challenge them to take their fitness to the next level. Alyson emphasizes a mind body connection through proper alignment, breathing and flow of movement.
Michelle

Michelle Dow

Pilates and Yoga Instructor 
Michelle began dance at a very young age. Her love for dance and movement eventually lead her to receive a degree as a licensed physical therapist assistant. She eventually pursued her 200 hr yoga certification and Comprehensive Pilates Certification through Peak Pilates.
Her classes are a blend of all her background and knowledge with emphasis on breath work and deep core control with all movement.

Teresa Wable

Pilates and Barre Instructor
Having a BS and MS in exercise physiology, Teresa has always been fascinated by the power of exercise and started exercising as a young adult as a way to take time for herself, relieve the stresses of everyday life, and meet new people . In March 2014 Teresa completed her TotalBarre instructor’s course and is currently working toward her STOTT PILATES® certification. She completed the Intensive Reformer Module 1 in May 2014 and Intensive Mat Module 1 in May 2015. In May 2017 she completed the HALO Trainer certification through Merrithew Fitness. She is excited to add another style of exercise to her repertoire. In addition to TotalBarre and STOTT PILATES®, Teresa is a MadDogg certified spin instructor and an avid runner. Teresa strives to make exercising a priority all while juggling a busy household with 6 children. She wants her children and others to see the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. As a passionate “exerciser,” Teresa is always ready to try something new and is looking forward to transforming the bodies and minds at Body and Soul Pilates.

Kristin Kurtz

Barre and Piloxing Instructor 
Kristin has been teaching group classes since 2007. She is a ceritified Madd Dog spin instructor since 2007 and certified Keiser M3 indoor cycle instructor since 2012. She has been running for over 15 years and completed the Hartford Marathon in 2009, 2013 and the NYC marathon in 2010. Kristin needed to add strength and flexibility to her routine and attended her first class at body and soul in 2012. She currently takes classes with her daughter, Lily, a Cheshire High School and Cheshire Sea Dogs swimmer. She became interested in the Barre class when we first introduced it this summer. She has been studying Barre since November and on January 25, 2014 completed her Total Barre Instructor Foundation Course through Stott Pilates. She is very excited to bring the high energy program that focuses on strength, flexibility, stamina and dynamic stability to her classes. She finds it a new, fun and challenging way to workout.

Sharalynn Donlin

Barre Instructor
Sharalynn has been involved in fitness and the arts for more than 20 years. As a tap dancer, she has won regional and national competitions. Her interest in fitness was ignited as she trained to compete in the 2009 Miss Connecticut Pageant, which she won. Following a strict regime for the Miss America Pageant added to her love of fitness. As Sharalynn prepared for her wedding, she began and “fell in love” with Barre. Although an experienced competitor, she noticed increased flexibility, tone, strength and stamina. Sharalynn completed the Total Barre Foundation course through Merrithew Fitness. She chose to become a certified Barre instructor because of her belief that every woman can improve the quality of her life, happiness and self image through body awareness, proper exercise and healthy eating. Sharalynn’s approach to Barre instruction is based on personalized instruction, liberal doses of encouragement, and enjoying the experience. Sharalynn brings a unique blend of experience, empathy, and enthusiasm to her classes.

Talia Erris

Barre  Instructor
Talia has been involved with daily physical fitness since childhood. As both a gymnast and a dancer, Talia incorporated exercise as a means to reduce stress, tone muscle, and take time for herself amidst a busy lifestyle. Following some trying life circumstances, Talia decided to try barre as a way to release mental and physical stress. Attending multiple classes per week, Talia noticed not only a change in attitude but also heightened positivity and an increasingly toned physique. As a result of her positive response to barre, Talia was trained and certified through Merrithew in Total Barre in November 2016. Talia has been teaching at Body and Soul since she was certified. In addition to teaching barre, Talia works per diem as a social worker for children and families. She will attend Columbia University in the fall of 2017 to receive her masters in clinical social work. Talia hopes to bring challenging, upbeat, invigorating routines for those who attend her barre classes.

Brooke Jackson

Barre and Interval Training Instructor 
Brooke is certified through the American Barre Technique. She is a sophomore at Merrimack College, where she is a Health Science major with a concentration in Nutrition and a member of the Women’s Lacrosse Team. Having always been a competitive athlete she has had a passion for working out, but when she tried Barre for the first time in 2016 she fell in love. She loves how barre gives her a great workout through fun techniques and tons of variations. In the future she plans to continue pursuing training in the Pilates method .

Carly Wysoczanski

Barre Instructor 
Carly began taking Barre classes at Body and Soul in 2017. She was looking for a workout that would motivate her multiple times a week and tone her body in preparation for her wedding. Barre was the perfect workout for her. She loved the motivating music, positive environment, and effects the workout had on her body. Carly is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, with a strong background in Anatomy/Physiology and Kinesiology. She decided to expand on that background and become trained in the Total Barre method. She hopes to help her clients to fall in love with Barre just as she has.

Elena Medina

Barre Instructor 
Elena is a life long dancer and a fitness enthusiast. She has been engaged in CrossFit, yoga, Mud Run obstacles and a runner for the past 10 years. She fell in love with Barre and Pilates in 2017. Elena completed the Total Barre foundation course through Merrithew. She loves training and her passion is enticing others to achieve their fitness and life goals. Elena will be pursuing her Yoga training and Pilates reformer Certifications this fall
During her free time Elena enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, spending time with her hubby, friends and family and her dog Diego. .

Sophia Millares

Barre Instructor 
Sophia is a certified Total Barre instructor. She is an incoming senior at Boston College studying Economics, with minors in Management & Leadership and Women & Gender Studies. Growing up with a ballet background, she has a passion for fitness and has tried a wide range of studio classes in Boston, New York, Connecticut, and beyond. She brings an energetic, fun atmosphere to her classes.
Sandy Cunningham

Sandy Cunningham

Pilates Mat Instructor 
Sandy Cunningham has been practicing Pilates for over 30 years.  She has been trained in STOTT PILATES® Intensive Matwork.  She believes that Mat Pilates is an important component of everyone’s exercise program.  In addition to Mat Pilates she participates in our reformer, yoga and Barre programs. Sandy graduated from Quinnipiac College in 1989 with a BS in marketing.  While at Quinnipiac she was the Captain of the women’s softball team.  She ran the off-season conditioning program, which included Pilates, cardio and strength training.  She began teaching Pilates at the Cheshire Sr. Center in 2011.  She enjoys sharing her experiences and motivating others to incorporate exercise into their busy lifestyles.
